How to shape your eyebrows
The shape and the thickness of your eyebrows can enhance your appearance by flattering your facial shape, which will balance your features, and frame your eyes. If you have thick or full eyebrows, you may need to go to a beauty therapist whom may wax or tweeze them. If your eyebrows are thin or you have small eyebrows, you may need to fill them in with an eyebrow pencil or an eyebrow-shading product.
A man’s eyebrow is typically thicker and fairly straight compared to that of a woman. All this means is that men can shape their eyebrows just like women, but should beware of making their eyebrows too thin or too arched. Either way, here is how to find a shape that’s flattering to any face.
To reduce the curve of a round face, direct the outer third of the eyebrow towards the top of the ear. For a long face, keep the eyebrows straighter, directing it just above the ear. For a square face, direct it towards the middle of the ear and finally for an oval face, direct the outer third towards the ear lobe.

Follow the steps below to create your desired look
- Firstly, you will need to determine where your inner brow should start. To do this, you will need to hold a straight edge i.e. an eyebrow pencil vertically in front of your face. Line the pencil so that it touches the outermost of edge your nose – and the inside of your eye – A. By doing this it will indicate where your eyebrow should start. Make a mark and then repeat this step for the other eye.
- Determine where your outer brow should end. To do this, you will need to Angle the straight edge of your eyebrow pencil further so that it touches the outermost edge of your nose and let it pass along the outermost edge of your eye – D. Make a mark and then repeat this step for the other eye.
- Determine where your arch should peak.To do this, angle the straight edge of your eyebrow pencil so that it lines up with the outermost edge of your nose and the outermost edge of your eye’s pupil – B. It is important that you look straight ahead in the mirror. Make a mark and then repeat this step for the other eye.
- Draw a line along the bottom edge of your brow. This will determine the brow thickness, thereby following the natural shape of your eyebrow.
- Pluck the stray hairs that fall below the line and outside the marks you’ve made. Eyebrows should be 0.5 to 1cm at their thickest. Take care when plucking above the eyebrow, as you want to retain your eyebrow’s natural arch.
- If your eyebrows are bushy, you may need to trim them.
- To finish off, fill in the sparse gaps with an eyebrow pencil or suitable shadow.
