Make-up brushes and their uses

Looking back into the history of makeup brushes, these were invented by the Egyptians and remained primarily in the realm of the well-to-do. The bronze makeup brush was found in a Saxon cemetery and thought to date back to 500 to 600 AD. They created make up as they believed was next to godliness and that it appealed to the Gods; both men and women of all social classes wore makeup.

A cosmetic make up brush is made up of three parts: bristles, handle and the ferrule that connects the two. Handles are most often made of wood, plastic or resin. The ferrule is almost always made of metal.  The bristles are probably the most important part of any makeup brush. They are made from animal hair or synthetic hair, or a combination of these two. Animal hair bristles are also known as ‘natural’ bristles. They typically come from animals such as goats, squirrels, badgers, sables/weasels, or horses.

There purpose is to make the application of make up and blending easier. You will end up having a smoother, well-done, and more attractive look. If, for instance, you use bad eyeshadow brushes, your eyeshadow will come out looking tacky and totally unattractive.

You truly only need a 3-4 brushes if you are a beginner – a flat eyeshadow brush, a crease brush, eyeliner brush and a blush/powder bronzer brush. That’s it!!! However, once you are beyond the beginner level there are a few more brushes that come in useful and will complete your set.

Makeup brushes are a necessary tool for every makeup lover.

Whether you’re a professional or a novice, there are some brushes you should have in your collection to help make your cosmetics application easier.

Another useful brush to have in your kit is a Kabuki brush. It is a natural make-up brush with many uses. You can use a Kabuki brush to apply mineral make-up powders and blushers and we think it is the best type of make-up brush to use when applying liquid foundation and tinted moisturiser.

Your makeup brushes serve as indispensable tools in our beauty routines, aiding us in achieving precise makeup application and elevating our overall appearance. However, it is equally vital to acknowledge the significance of keeping these brushes clean.

Over time, makeup brushes accumulate residual products, oils, and bacteria, potentially leading to skin issues and compromising the efficacy of your makeup application. Regularly cleaning your makeup brushes is a crucial step in removing these impurities, ensuring hygienic application, and safeguarding against breakouts or skin irritations.

By prioritizing the cleanliness of your makeup brushes, you can optimize their performance, safeguard your skin’s health, and indulge in a seamless and flawless makeup application experience.
